Tradier automation through PickMyTrade connects TradingView alerts to your Tradier stock or options account. TradeLocker, MatchTrader and cTrader use a similar alert-routing process, but their connection methods, instruments and position handling differ. Start by connecting the correct account, then generate a broker-specific message and test an entry and exit.

This is a Tradier automation walkthrough followed by connection guides for TradeLocker, MatchTrader and cTrader on pickmytrade.io. Use the Tradier sections for stock and options routing, or jump to your platform’s connection section. All four share the message-generation and verification checklist at the end.
Setup at a glance: Connect the correct environment, generate the broker-specific alert, select the matching TradingView event, then verify the order and exit. Tradier stocks use share quantities; options require contract selection. TradeLocker and MatchTrader need account-specific instrument settings. cTrader uses Grant Access for the selected account.
Which setup belongs to each platform?
Choose the platform that actually holds your trading account. TradingView supplies the signal, PickMyTrade processes the configured instructions, and the destination broker or platform accepts or rejects the order. Credentials, symbols and order settings must match that destination.
| Platform | Connection approach | Main setup check |
|---|---|---|
| Tradier | Live login authorization; Demo uses API Access credentials | Select stocks or options and the intended environment |
| TradeLocker | Username, password, environment and server | Use the exact server and broker-side instrument name |
| MatchTrader / Match-Trader | Credentials required by the connection form; confirm the firm’s platform instance | Select the correct instrument classification and account |
| cTrader | Sign in with cTrader ID and Grant Access | Authorize the intended account and select Demo or Live |
Use the current PickMyTrade form for your connection. Field labels can change, and a broker’s own trading features do not automatically establish which features its PickMyTrade integration supports. Configure and test each route separately.
What do you need before generating an alert?
Prepare an active destination account, its supported connection details, a TradingView indicator or strategy with a defined signal, and a TradingView plan that supports webhook notifications. Decide the execution instrument, size and exit rules before generating the message. Use a demo environment where available for your first round-trip test.
Write a short trade specification: signal symbol, execution symbol, account, side, quantity and exit owner. This prevents a common setup mistake: changing several settings during troubleshooting without knowing which instruction the alert should send.
For stocks, quantity generally describes shares in the selected workflow. For options, inspect the actual contract and contract count. For forex and CFDs, verify the instrument’s quantity units and allowed increments. Don’t reuse a numerical size across platforms without checking what it means.
Tradier automation setup: connect Demo or Live
Tradier’s Demo and Live connection paths are different. PickMyTrade’s Tradier connection guide directs Live users through Tradier login authorization. Demo users obtain sandbox credentials through Tradier’s API Access page. Choose the environment before connecting and check the resulting account.
- Sign in to PickMyTrade on pickmytrade.io and select Tradier.
- Open Tradier Connection and choose Add New Connection.
- For Live, select Live, click Create and complete the Tradier authorization flow.
- For Demo, open your Tradier API Access page and locate Sandbox API Access. Use its API key and the account details required by the current PickMyTrade form.
- Return to PickMyTrade and confirm the connection state and destination account.
Keep sandbox and live credentials separate. A successful demo connection is not authorization for a live account. When switching environments, review the account selection and regenerate the alert configuration rather than assuming the demo destination changed automatically.
Store keys privately and redact them from screenshots. If authentication fails, check the selected environment and connection method before modifying your TradingView signal.
Configure Tradier automation for stocks and options
Choose the instrument type that matches the order you want to place. PickMyTrade’s Tradier guides cover equities and options. A stock ticker such as AAPL identifies an equity, while an options order also needs a valid contract selection. The underlying chart symbol alone does not fully identify that option.
Stocks: start with an explicit symbol and quantity
In Generate Alert, select Tradier, choose INDICATOR or STRATEGY as appropriate, and select the equity/stock instrument type. Enter the intended symbol, confirm the destination account and configure the size. For a first demo check, a fixed share quantity makes the expected order easier to compare with the broker record.
Review the available order type and price fields. A submitted limit order may remain working until its price conditions are met; a received alert is not a completed fill. Check broker market hours and order eligibility before diagnosing an unfilled order as a webhook failure.
Options: verify the contract the route selects
PickMyTrade’s Tradier indicator guide includes call/put, strike-selection and expiry settings. Confirm the selected contract exists and the account has permission to trade it. Check the resulting order’s underlying, option type, strike, expiry and quantity in the broker record.
Distinguish buying a put from selling an option. A bearish signal describes market direction; it does not by itself establish whether the order opens a long put or a short option position. Review the generated action and verify the submitted contract-side instruction before enabling live routing.
Start with an equity workflow if your immediate goal is stock automation. Add the options configuration only after you can reconcile the signal and order records. A stock test cannot verify option-selection behavior.
Worked Tradier automation example: AAPL demo shares
Use this illustrative stock test to make the expected result measurable. It describes configuration and verification, not a trade recommendation or a claim that we executed the test. Choose a valid signal from your own indicator and use a Tradier Demo account.
| Field | Example setting | Expected check |
|---|---|---|
| Broker and environment | Tradier, Demo | Sandbox account is the destination |
| Alert type | INDICATOR | TradingView condition belongs to the selected indicator |
| Instrument | Equity/Stock, AAPL | Broker order identifies AAPL shares |
| Entry action and size | BUY, fixed quantity 1 | Order requests one share before any configured account multiplier |
| Order type | MKT when eligible, or LMT with a valid entered limit price | Fill or working-order state agrees with the selected order type |
| Exit | Generated CLOSE route for this test position | Intended position becomes flat; unrelated positions are unaffected by the chosen scope |
For the first test, keep the account’s AAPL position flat and remove unrelated AAPL working orders. In Generate Alert, choose Tradier and INDICATOR, select the stock instrument, enter AAPL and fixed quantity 1, then choose the connected sandbox account. Keep the account multiplier at 1 for this example.
Generate the entry message and copy it unchanged into the corresponding TradingView indicator alert. Create the exit message through the supported CLOSE workflow rather than turning a buy message into an exit by guessing field values. Verify the scope before using the exit while other positions are open.
When the condition fires, check the TradingView alert event, PickMyTrade processing result and Tradier order record. Confirm the requested and filled quantity separately. If you use a limit order, a working order is an expected possible result; do not treat it as a failed delivery.
After the entry fills, trigger the intended exit and check that AAPL is flat with no unintended working orders. Then repeat the relevant protective-order and reversal cases for your actual system. This basic test verifies one entry-and-exit route; it does not verify every options, partial-exit or risk-sizing configuration.
Who manages Tradier stop loss and take profit?
| Your strategy behavior | Configure | Verify |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy already sends complete exits | Use the strategy-controlled exit mode | Entry and exit quantities follow the strategy events |
| Signal needs attached protection | Configure the supported SL/TP mode and units | Broker or platform records show the intended protection |
| Strategy scales out through multiple exits | Use the documented multiple-exit workflow | Each exit reduces the intended amount without creating a new position |
Pick the mode that matches the source logic. Do not attach a second independent exit mechanism without deciding how later strategy exits are handled. Risk-percentage sizing also needs valid instrument settings and stop-distance inputs; it expresses planned risk, not a guaranteed maximum loss.
TradeLocker setup: match the environment and server
TradeLocker requires the correct username, password, environment and server in its PickMyTrade connection form. The TradeLocker connection guide specifies copying the server name exactly from the platform login panel. An incorrect server or environment can prevent connection before any alert is involved.
- Select TradeLocker in PickMyTrade and open its connection panel.
- Choose Add New Connection.
- Enter the TradeLocker platform credentials, select Demo or Live and enter the server name.
- Create the connection and confirm the account is available.
- Generate the appropriate indicator or strategy alert for the broker-side instrument.
A firm’s client-portal login may differ from its trading-platform login. After a password reset or account change, recheck the connection. Changing the TradingView alert message will not resolve invalid platform credentials.
Map the chart symbol to the instrument shown in your account where necessary. A suffix can distinguish one firm’s symbol from another’s, but it is only one possible mismatch. Verify the exact instrument and its trading permissions instead of adding a guessed suffix.
Check the contract specification for minimum size, maximum size and quantity step. If a hypothetical instrument permits steps of 0.01 lots, 0.18 fits that step while 0.18347 does not. Another instrument may use a different increment. Decimal-place count alone is not the complete rule; size must meet the permitted increment and bounds.
MatchTrader setup: identify the firm and instrument type
Connect the MatchTrader account using the credentials and fields shown in the current PickMyTrade form. Confirm the firm’s platform instance, account and active connection state. If the form requests a platform URL, use the trading-terminal address supplied by your broker or prop firm rather than a generic website address.
Then select the instrument classification required by that account. PickMyTrade’s Match-Trader indicator guide distinguishes CFD, FOREX and FOREXCFD. The choice affects sizing and price calculations, so match the broker’s contract specification rather than classifying the instrument from its name alone.
The same guide notes that a new same-direction alert can overwrite existing SL/TP values in its documented indicator workflow. Test a second entry while a position is already open. Verify the resulting quantity and protection rather than assuming each alert keeps independent brackets.
An authentication error can have several causes. Check credentials, environment, platform instance and account access together. If the connection is active but the account list is empty, verify account availability with the provider rather than assuming a specific verification step is always responsible.
cTrader setup: authorize the correct account
cTrader uses a sign-in and account-authorization flow. The cTrader connection guide instructs you to add a connection, sign in with cTrader ID or registered email, select the account and click Grant Access. Choose the intended Demo or Live environment afterward.
- Select cTrader in PickMyTrade and open cTrader Connection.
- Click Add New Connection and complete the cTrader sign-in.
- Select the account to authorize and click Grant Access.
- Choose the intended environment and confirm the connection.
- Generate a broker-specific alert and verify the account, instrument and quantity.
Do not assume authorization covers every account associated with your cTrader ID. Review which account is selected in the connection and in the generated alert route. When adding another account, verify its access and allocation independently.
Use the cTrader strategy setup guide for the strategy-specific workflow. Confirm quantity units, symbol mapping and exit mode before sending the demo order.
How do you choose indicator or strategy alerts and exits?
Select INDICATOR for a signal based on an indicator condition and STRATEGY for a Pine strategy workflow. The generated message must match the selected TradingView event. Indicator buy, sell and close signals and strategy order-fill events are different routes; their labels are not interchangeable.
For Tradier strategies, follow the Tradier strategy automation guide. Establish whether the strategy already sends complete exits, needs attached protection, or scales out through multiple exit alerts. Only choose attached SL/TP for the workflow that needs that configuration.
Which TradingView event should you select?
| Source workflow | TradingView event | Message requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Pine strategy using generated order-fill automation | Select the strategy and Order fills only for the standard order-fill route | Use the strategy message generated for that account and broker |
| Indicator with separate buy/sell conditions | Select the specific indicator condition for each action | Use its corresponding generated action message |
| Script deliberately sending custom JSON with alert() | Use alert() function calls only when that custom route is intended | The script must construct the message expected by the integration |
| Order fills and alert() calls together | Use only if both event types are intentionally routed | Check that one trade cannot generate unwanted duplicate instructions |
Order-fill events refer to TradingView’s simulated strategy fills. They are not confirmations from Tradier or another external broker. For an order-fill route, preserve the generated strategy placeholders and ensure exit events are included when the strategy owns exits. For custom alert() routes, do not assume placeholder text inside the script’s string will be expanded like a dialog message.
For indicator signals intended to act only on confirmed candles, use the applicable bar-close frequency. Strategy order-fill timing depends on the strategy and its calculation settings. A frequency change cannot by itself fix a mismatch between the selected event and the generated message.
Set one clear owner for each exit. If TradingView sends an exit after a broker-managed stop has already closed the position, decide how that later instruction will be handled. Test it explicitly instead of assuming the chart simulation mirrors the broker account.
An opposite-direction message may reduce exposure, flatten a position or create a reversal depending on the integration and settings. Enabling reverse-close is not a universal fix for every strategy. Partial exits and full reversals need different intended quantities and behavior.
Generate the message and create the TradingView alert
Generate the JSON and webhook URL in PickMyTrade after selecting the broker, account, instrument, size and exit rules. Then create the matching alert in TradingView. Use the generated values from the current dashboard rather than a generic payload copied from another broker’s tutorial.
- In PickMyTrade, review the broker, alert type, account and instrument.
- Configure the intended quantity or supported risk-sizing mode and exit handling.
- Confirm and generate the alert message.
- In TradingView, select the relevant indicator condition or strategy event.
- Paste the generated message into the Message field.
- Enable the Webhook URL notification and paste the generated URL.
- Create the alert and confirm it is active.
PickMyTrade’s TradingView alert setup guide covers the message and webhook fields. Keep tokens private, preserve valid JSON and avoid changing field names unless the integration’s documentation requires it.
TradingView’s alert documentation explains that running alerts retain the script and chart context saved at creation. Recreate an affected alert after changing its source settings, symbol or timeframe. Stop the obsolete copy so it does not continue trading.
Verify the complete route before going live
Test an entry and an exit through the actual alert workflow, then compare TradingView, PickMyTrade and broker records. The test should establish the correct destination, instrument, action and filled quantity. Demo fills validate the workflow but do not guarantee identical execution or future profitability in live trading.
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Signal | The intended TradingView event fired |
| Delivery | PickMyTrade received the expected payload |
| Routing | The correct broker account and environment were selected |
| Order | The instrument, action, price fields and quantity are correct |
| Protection | The intended stop/target or exit mechanism is active |
| Exit | The expected remaining quantity is recorded; no unintended orders remain |
For more than one destination, test each independently before enabling the group. A quantity multiplier applies to each destination’s incoming size. It is not the number of accounts, and it does not guarantee equal dollar risk between instruments or accounts.
Troubleshooting: use the rejection text as evidence
Find the earliest stage that failed. A missing alert, invalid connection, rejected quantity and working limit order require different investigations. Preserve the exact timestamp, platform, instrument, account reference and broker order ID where available. Keep credentials out of public screenshots.
| Symptom | Check first |
|---|---|
| Tradier demo connection fails | Sandbox credential source and Demo environment |
| Live authorization fails | Broker sign-in, selected account and granted access |
| TradeLocker stays disconnected | Credentials, server spelling and environment |
| MatchTrader authentication error | Platform instance, credentials and account access |
| Symbol Mapping Not Found | Exact broker instrument and mapping |
| Lot-step rejection | Allowed quantity increment, minimum and maximum |
| Insufficient margin | Available margin, existing exposure and intended size |
| Unexpected exit or reversal | Alert event, exit ownership, quantity and reversal settings |
| Entry fills but protection is missing | Configured exit mode, submitted protection and broker response |
Do not assume every margin rejection comes from a contract multiplier, or every authorization error comes from a missing URL. Check the submitted instruction and broker response. For a support request, share the necessary order identifiers privately alongside the error text and timezone.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. PickMyTrade documents indicator and strategy workflows for Tradier stocks and options. Connect the intended environment, select the correct instrument type and verify the order instructions. Options require contract selection as well as the underlying chart symbol.
No. The documented Live path uses Tradier login authorization, while Demo uses Sandbox API Access credentials. Choose the environment first and verify the destination account. Regenerate the route when moving from testing to live execution.
The server identifies the broker or firm’s TradeLocker environment used by your trading account. Copy it exactly from the platform login panel. Pair it with the correct credentials and environment before creating the connection.
No. Stocks, options, forex and CFDs use different units and permitted increments. Check the exact instrument specification and the broker-specific integration. A fixed demo size helps you verify the quantity submitted before enabling calculated sizing or account multipliers.
Generate and review a message for each configured broker route. Connection identifiers, accounts, instruments and risk settings differ. Reusing an unrelated message can send incorrect instructions or cause a rejection even when the TradingView condition fires correctly.
To begin, open PickMyTrade, connect the platform that holds your account and generate its alert. Complete a small demo entry-and-exit check before moving the route to live trading.
